Title: A Day At Kenova. 2-23-2011
Post by: SRR3204L on February 24, 2011, 07:58:05 PM
Yesterday, my father and I went down to Kenova, West Virginia for a couple of hours to catch some trains on both CSX and NS.

First train to show up was work train 94Z being led east across the Ohio River Bridge by GP38-2 5035.

We didn't have to wait long for the next train to show up either. Train I72, 272's extra run, heads east on number one main with about fifty autoracks in tow. Train is being led by SD70M-2 #2687 D8-40CW 8353.

While waiting on 18M to show up, I just happened to notice a headlight coming towards us on the on the connecting track for the Kenova River Terminal Railway. It just happened to be that headlight was from NS 6114 that was heading for the terminal and their yard next to the Ohio River.

The next NS train to show up was a rather short 18M heading east bound at around 11AM. This 18M was being led by D9-40CW 9875 as it heads across the bridge on Main One.

After two or three CSX trains went by on the Kanawha Subdivision, NS train 233 showed up with five General Electrics and an SD70M-2 as it proceeds westbound towards Columbus, Ohio and on to Chicago, Illinois. Second unit on the train was UP 9307, which is just one of the many units that UP has leased to Norfolk Southern over the past several months.

A few minutes after the 233 cleared, 17M called a clear at "57 crossover" westbound. Twenty minutes after the 233 had came and gone. The 17M came around the curve being led by the 9338 and the 8355. The last time I saw the 8355, it was on a light power move over on the West Virginia Secondary back in October.

The last train to show up for the day was a light power move that had just came down off of the loop from the NS yard. This may have been the J19 running over to the KRT yard next to the river.
