Typically we do a lot of the year that was sharing in December, and as a way to kick that off this year we are announcing a special contest in addition to our monthly contest. We want to see your best/ Favorite photos from 2010. Each member will be limited to two entries in this contest. The only rules are the photo has to be from 2010, and it has to be NS related. Be sure to share all of your other favorite photos from the year in the trip reports and photo sharing section!
Since we want to make it totally open to every day of 2010 we'll keep this contest open until January 9, 2011.
The winner will get a special spot on the Jreb main page and the album cover for the 2010 contest winners album on the Jreb facebook page.
NS 61A with repainted SD60M leader
NS 229 with SD60 leader in Moreland
From March 2010(vacation in Kentucky)--
1]Pair of "Deuces" idling on NS 375 at Faulkner.
2]NS 216 straight down #2 track from SJ Tower to cross over at North Wye. Another NS stacker waits in the wings on #1.
Both of my favorite NS shots from the year include the F-units with the OCS.
Shot one is the 2010 outbound Kentucky Derby special sitting in the siding at Tucker, on the Louisville District. The shot was taken during heavy rain, and alot of flooding occured over the day.
Shot two is a southbound OCS at Oneida, TN.
John Owens
Photo 1 - NS 7695 @ the exact same spot as John Owens F-Unit photo, East Tucker siding. This train had broken down coming from Buechel to Jeffersontown. The next train along left its cars at GE Appliance Park yard on the main and pushed 7695 through Jeffersontown to the siding at Tucker dropped off an engine and returned back to their train and then ran back by 7695 while they adjusted their power around.
It was in the mid 30's with a nice mist making it look like fog.
Photo #2 - Pope Lick Trestle with a CSX leading. Everyone says the NS line has CSX engines running all the time and in two years of watching trains run on the NS line I have seen a total of one CSX engine. As an added bonus it's followed by a UP unit.

Well, here it goes...
It's hard to believe that nearly 11 months has past since my most recent trip to Sayre, PA. On that day, I caught the NS local (H11?) switching the former Lehigh Valley yard with a weathered pair of SD40-2s still dressed in CR blue.

Photo taken by me Friday 1/29/2010. The former LV station in the background is now a museum.
In much warmer weather, I had a truly epic chase of NS local H06 as it travelled north through the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. This shot really depicts what I love about RRing in the Finger Lakes- trains running through the wooded rural areas.

Another 20+ entry contest! You guys always come through with some great stuff. The poll is up as of right now and active for 5 days.
Congrats to Carmon for her winning entry. We will get it up on facebook tonight, and it will serve as the cover image for the 2010 album.
