Title: A Nice Memory
Post by: Ponce de Leon on December 19, 2012, 11:44:17 AM
I was scanning some slides over the last weekend, and noticed a shot of 611 that had been remounted. I think this one ran in Trains some time ago, but I'm not sure. At any rate, it's a visual record of just why many of us lament 611's current status as a "stuffed and mounted" display in Roanoke. For sure, I'm glad the engine is still extant, but it would be great to witness her in action again---and hear that distinctive deep chime whistle. Maybe one day...

(By the way, this was taken on April 28, 1992 in a cut between Radford and Dublin, VA, on the Bristol Line. The engine was on a ferry run to Bristol for weekend excursions between there and Radford.)
