Nice shots!

I also saw the 185 and 810 (and many others) at Pembroke, VA.

A former classmate hosted our class reunion at his home beside the New River on Caboose Lane along the Whitethorne District. (Many eastbounds stopped along there for the next automatic signal, which must not be passed if indicating Approach). We could also clearly see the traffic on the Christiansburg District across the river.

I didn't get any train shots, but did photograph an experimental aircraft that did a flyover. It later landed on the water and taxied to our boat landing. I held the wing to keep the aircraft from floating away with the river current. He took off upstream amid a bunch of puzzled boaters. He then returned at full speed following the river downstream at an altitude about equal to his wingspan, banking steeply to follow the bend in the river. Too bad there wasn't a train in the background shot at the time.
