on Friday I was golfing and on the track that goes by Bellevue's golf course (from Ft. Wayne, IN) I saw an eastbound train heading toward the yard that was pulled by to CN locos.

I'm used to seeing some UP and BNSF locos every now and then, but that was one of the few times I've seen a CN, and the first time where it was only CN locos with no others with it.

Also, a week or two ago I saw a Wheeling and Lake Erie train pull in with a Union Pacific at the point. That was a first, and lead me to wonder how an eastern regional railroad ends up with a UP loco.

So, yeah.....those were a few interesting things I saw recently.

If im right, WLE is leasing the locos from union pacific, Instead of UP having them sit in storage.

Bellevue Kid

thanks

and to add to my first sighting, tonight I saw a train come in to the yard from the Portsmouth track that was pulled by 5 CN locos

The W&LE has been using five former UP SD90MAC units that they leased short term from EMD Leasing back in May.  The units are EMLX 8523, EMLX 8524, EMLX 8529, EMLX 8539 and EMLX 8549.  The W&LE also has one GP40-3 rebuild, WE 300, that retains its former UP paint and lettering.  In addition, the W&LE also handles occasional Powder River coal trains to Mingo Jct., OH, that most often will use the UP run through power.  See the link below for more information on the current W&LE locomotive roster:

Hey Bellevue kid, was it sunday afternoon? if so then it was probably 17R, the CN runthrough train that originates in Wisconsin and terminates in Columbus.  So the chances of seeing CN onthe  train are favorable.
And the train where you saw the 5 CN locos, that was 305

Bellevue Kid

no, it was Friday (the first CN sighting)

Bellevue Kid

here is UP 8524, which I've seen on the WE in Bellevue several times now in the past 2 weeks

and then here is an interesting looking loco. looks like the WE didn't try to do much to cover up the old NS paint job

TB4JY

Three road names on one engine.  Southern, NS and WLE.  Don't see that everyday.

Bellevue Kid

I didn't even notice the original Southern script. Good observation and an interesting point.

Do you have any info on this particular loco NSDash9?

WE EMD GP35 2703 is former NS/SOU 2703.  My Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway locomotive roster can be found at the link below:

Norm

Why would UP get rid of the SD90MACS?  Were they another example of higher horsepower units that weren't reliable?
Norm

NS 2557

Norm that is exactly it they had electrical bug's in the locomotives that emd was in the process of fixing but UP had enough of the down time that the locomotives were experiencing so they sent them back to emd  also CP isn't happy with there order either.
