EL frieight at Elmira , NY Sept 1972.
I was 3 years old and living in Elmira at the time the photo was shot. This is where I became a railfan- lots of powerful (and colorful!) locomotives caught my eye. My earliest memories of the Erie Lackawanna go back to about age 4 (and my mother agrees that was the age when I began to really notice trains), which was the year after this shot was taken. Funny thing is, I was just down there a couple days ago and I will be back in the area next weekend.
