i have never painted a loco or any other model train but recently got a southern sd9 with some way off road number.  I am wanting to put a more realistic road number on it whats the easiest way , it has a four digit road number and i didnt know if painting over one of them would be easier or paint over all of them and start over.

What you have there is actually an Atlas SD24 model.  The roadnumber on that model is correct for a Southern SD24.
