I have a question about the ex-sd45,  NS rd# 1000 used for testing. What, if anything is used to cover up any exposed components when the unit is not in use and stored outside?
I want to model this unit, but don't want to leave just a blank open spot in the middle of the frame, as it won't look no where near the same as the prototype there, lol. I thought about putting a "tarp" across the section of the frame there or across the entire opening to disguise it.

Nothing is put in the engine compartment when the 1000 is not in use, as there is nothing to cover.  What you'd see if you looked closely would be a steel floor between the two frame rails.
