Good evening....I would like to model a GP38AC, could someone tell what the difference between a GP38 and the AC version is so that I may add the appropriate details.

Thank you

From looking at photos and drawings of both engine types, it looks as if the only differences are a slightly smoother blower duct on the GP38 and different handrail stanchion positions.

Here are a couple of comparison photos. The first is a GP38AC and the second is a normal GP38.

There is one thing I did notice with the Southern/NS GP38's: The type of air filter appeared to have varied on a unit-to-unit basis. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Craig,
You didn't mention what scale so I'm going to assume HO.  As previously mentioned, one of the main spotting features is the ribbed blower bulge on the AC versus smooth on the 38.  Also, the AC has handrail stantioned equally spaced on the long hood.  Also, at least during Southern days, the 38s had the tiny 1600 gallon(?) fuel tank where the AC has the larger "small" tank offered with the Atlas model.
