I'm building SOU GP38 number 2808A. I'm starting with an Atlas GP38 I got pretty cheap on Ebay ($45.00). I'm adding the typical Cannon and Co parts. I'm waiting for a #42 and a #44 drill bits for the classification lights and headlights. I'm also looking for an early GP38 dynamic brake part, with the oil bath filters.

Here is the modified fuel tank. It's 8 1/2 FT long and 1700 Gal.

Looking good. Very few people go to the trouble to modify the fuel tanks... nice job! Also, welcome to the JREB boards! Dan

Welcome. You will find this one of if not the best site on the web.

Like that ya went with the Small tank like Dan said its a rarity ! And also welcome , hope to see more of this project

SOU91

Thanks for the welcome guys. I have most of my parts for this unit. I'm just waiting for those two drill bits, windshield wipers and wind defectors. I like the smaller fuel tank. Mine was modified per Mr. Harpes instructions in his GP38 clinic.

Thanks for the info... I have a non-DB GP38-2 that was an old D&S unit with a 1600 gal fuel tank... however, I have never gotten around to shortening the tank... I will have to look that clinic up... as yours turn out very nice! Dan

I had the day off for a doctors appointment, so afterwards I got some work done on my GP38.

I got my lift rings, antenna, long hood end and grab irons. I'm waiting for my high hood kit and I'm looking for an oil bath filter dynamic brake blister.

Wow, your sound an awesome job ! Can't wait to see the end result ! Very nice

NSMoWandS

Coming along nicely! Quick question... are you going to remove some of the rear grab irons when you do the paint and decals... or are you going to work around them? DE Dan

Thanks guys.  ;D I'll work around them. I usually leave off the bottom on the left and the one on the right. I got a high hood kit this morning. It's drying waiting for the install this afternoon.

I got my short hood on today along with the grab irons. I've managed to misplace my chassis. Anybody got any frame building tips?  :P

Thanks for the offer Dan, I don't think that it would work with an Atlas body.

An Atlas GP38 frame. If I can't find mine or locate one I'll probably have to build one. I've wanted to build my own frames for a while now any way.

It's on hold, I'm waiting for some back ordered parts. Hopefully they will be here by Friday. I'm also getting ready to send the frame I got from you to get it milled around the fuel tank area so my 1,700 Gallon tank will fit properly.

I got some work done on the dynamic brake parts. I'm modifying the air filter per the prototype. I cut off the Atlas air filter and used a .030 piece of styrene and shaped it. Then added a "locator" tab also .030 styrene.

I've got the entire air filter built. The next task is filling the few seems and making the door for it.

If anyone wants them I've got my measurements written down.
