Forum Information and Support / Extended downtime apologies
Last post by E. Hodgson - September 10, 2024, 08:35:38 PM
I apologize for the extended downtime (actual amount of time is unknown to me) I have had an extremely busy summer with my family and have been ignoring many sites I host and unfortunately this one bit me.

I fear a database failure may have corrupted some files and there maybe some on going issues while I sort out and repair the problems.

I am thinking about if forum use and people desire to keep the forum running for some time I may look at a migration of software as Simple Machines is getting buggier as years go by. Input is welcome!

I believe it is named after the founders of the site, Junior and Emmett Bell. I am sure someone maybe able to chime in more.

General Discussion / The name of this website

I never understood the name of this website, jreb.  What does that have to do with trains?  Nothing, I think.  When I first saw the name, my first thought was "johnny reb".  I suppose there is a connection there.  I'm not sure how I found it, in 2014.  I guess I looked up train forums and this site showed up, among others.  That name, showing up in a list of train forums, would be an anomaly.  Apparently, it doesn't matter.  There have been plenty of people on this forum over the years.  I guess it was getting along in years when I found it.

I keep the NS train symbol list up to date.  I check for changes on a daily basis.

Forum Information and Support / Forum Update
Last post by E. Hodgson - March 29, 2024, 03:47:37 PM
I updated the forum software today in hopes to slow the number of spammers registering accounts, these accounts are stopped with spam software but are still taxing on the server itself as 100's a day are coming in. If you notice any issues with the newer software please let me know.

It is sad I agree, I keep it hosted as it's a wealth of information that is still available.

This is the effect social media and younger generations had on the internet, forums died to give way to a for of media that important information is there one day and impossible to find in the future whereas forums remain searchable on search engines for ever.

Too bad this website died.  I liked it.

Vintage Rails / Re: Abandoned Rathole Tunnels

Those are harsh punishments for walking into an old RR tunnel.  Many drug dealers probably don't get it that bad.  I suppose the reasoning is that if a person gets in trouble in a tunnel, then it might or would, depending on the situation, put rescue personnel in danger by going in to rescue somebody.
