Hey gang,
In honor of the 12th Anniversary of the end of the Excursion Program on our favorite railroad I am considering taking an excursion on TVRM. The info that I have obtained from TVRM is below, let me know if anyone is interested.

Sorry to be so vague, but the destination has not yet been
finalized.  Dinner will be served in the town of Chickamauga at a "to
be determined" location.  Below is the basic information based on the
assumption that the eating location will be Lee & Gordons Mill as it
has been many times in the past although the final destination may be
the Gordon Lee Mansion or one of several other restaurants.  Final
information should be available soon.

Chattanooga, Tennessee -  Fast becoming a holiday tradition, the
Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga will be operating its
annual "Chickamauga Christmas" train on one special evening.  The
vintage railroad ride is an afternoon run to Chickamauga, Georgia,
for dinner at Lee & Gordon?s Mill on Saturday, December 16.  This
diesel-powered excursion train departs from Grand Junction Station in
Chattanooga (Jersey Pike exit #3 from Highway 153, near I-75 exit #4)
at 4:15pm for a leisurely trip to Chickamauga.  The train will
include passenger coaches, a table car, and office car Eden Isle,
which is available for private parties of up to twelve persons.  In
Chickamauga, passengers will travel by bus to Lee & Gordon?s Mill for
a buffet-style holiday meal served on china in the festively
decorated dining hall.   Following dinner, patrons are offered a tour
of the meticulously restored 1836 gristmill, which sits beside
Chickamauga Creek.  The evening features a run back into Tennessee
after nightfall with anticipated return to Chattanooga around
8:45pm.  Coach tickets are $73 each, including dinner.  Reservations
for this special excursion may be made by calling the Tennessee
Valley Railroad Museum during weekday business hours at 423-894-
8028.  Track down the website at www.tvrail.com.

Sweet!

Also My little shortline is hosting October Excursions for teh second year in a row, here is an article from one of teh local newspapers.

"Each fall excursion travels the short-line of the historic Shenandoah
Valley Railroad, a route that runs from Verona to Pleasant Valley,
just south of Harrisonburg.

The tours will continue through October ? when the Valley's fall
foliage is at its peak ? every Sunday and every other Saturday, said
Ben True, operations manager of the railroad.

Freight trains carrying feed, propane, lumber and ink still run the
line during the week. But on weekends, five passenger cars and two
locomotives tote passengers on the 30-mile roundtrip.

A trip down the Shenandoah Valley Railroad offers an uncommon view of
the unassuming alley of farmland that lies between U.S. 11 and
Interstate 81.

The railroad's roots date back to 1866, when the Valley Railroad
Company was created with the goal of linking Harper's Ferry to Salem.
Although Robert E. Lee, the line's second president, worked to raise
enough money to start construction, he never saw the start of the 25-
mile stretch that would eventually link Harrisonburg and Staunton.
The line was built two years after the confederate general's death.

The Chesapeake & Western bought the line in 1895. The C&W name
survived many mergers and is still known to some enthusiasts at
the "Crooked & Weedy."

In 1993, the Greater Shenandoah Valley Development Corporation
purchased 20 miles of the track, forming the modern-day Shenandoah
Valley Railroad.

Fall Excursions tickets are available through October. Log on to
www.shenandoahvalleyrailroad.com for more information."
