The dog days of summer are upon us and leaving us all dreaming of cooler temps and fall colors in the coming months. One sure way to beat the heat is to gain some altitude. This month's contest theme is mountain railroading. Submit your favorite shots of deep cuts, high bridges and the like. If it is mountain railroading in any way it will fit. We will take entries until the 31st. Each user can submit up to 2 entries and all other normal rules apply.
3 SD80MACs lead a loaded coal drag down the mountain at Cassandra, PA
Standing on a cliff overlooking the Cumberland River, NS 957 and Southern 630 cross the Cumberland River Bridge as they depart Burnside for the trip north to Lexington
The OCS flies downhill over Wells Viaduct on the Greenville District:
NS P34 cuts away from coal train 748 at Ridgecrest, NC on the Loops.

Entry #1- Amtrak's Pennsylvanian heading eastbound at Horseshoe Curve. Photo taken by me Saturday 5/24/2014 in Altoona, PA.

A couple that you can't get anymore. First, three SD40-2's head back down the 4.7% grade of Saluda to retrieve another cut of cars for its continued trip west on May 16,1992. Next image is from Indiana. Certainly not known for mountain railroading however around MP 242 near DePauw there once was a tunnel and several years ago the railroad opened it up to make a nice cut. On July 2,1998 westbound steel coil train M61 is lead by GP40X 7000.
The poll is up and active for 5 days.
