Nickel Plate and Norfolk & Western on the CNO&TP

On Wednesday, the Nickel Plate heritage unit and a former Norfolk & Western SD40-2 came down the CNO&TP, one by surprise and one by knowledge. I left home and drove the 2 miles to the Wye around 0730 because I saw a train getting ready to depart South Wye and head for Cincinnati. As I parked and jumped on the hood to shoot him coming around the foggy curve, something caught my eye that I was not expecting. Upon further review, it was the NKP heritage rounding the bend. After coming down trailing on NS 289, it ended up leading NS 286 and was headed for Fort Wayne and Fostoria with loaded racks. After grabbing him at North Wye and Faulkner, I set up shop in Burgin and waited for 289.

After catching 289, I went back to the Buster Pike Bridge and waited for a fresh crew to hop aboard and take it to the Mixing Center. After an hour of waiting, they finally  took off, and I grabbed them at the both crossings at the Wye, Hogtown, Convoy, JREB HQ, Avenstoke and Waddy.. A total of 8 times, 7 with the new crew.. The sound of the RS5T horn and the EMD engine roaring up and down the grade will never grow old! So without further ado, below are a few pictures from the days adventure and a video!
