ACI Readers

Since I model the mid to late 70's mainly.  Does anyone remember those barcodes on the side of cars and locos? 

Well I would like to add the model of the readers to my trackside.  I have found the model of the reader but I can't find any info on how or where they would be placed and relationship to the track.

Any info and pictures would be great!!!!

Dont hold me to this but I think the majority of them were installed around the throat of yards and possible around interchanges

Thanks Badhorse.  Shold have added that I have read the Goole stuff and Wiki.
Need info on trackside placement as to where and distance from track so forth.

Here is a pic of AEI not ACI readers on KCS in Meridien, MS. I assume the ACI readers would be about the same distance. Hope this helps. Dan
