Title: ECP Coal Train
Post by: Trainman24210 on January 11, 2015, 11:38:39 AM
We used to have a fairly regular coal train thru Abingdon using ECP equipped cars but it has been gone for some time.  I haven't seen or heard of the ECP equipment being used anywhere.  Are those cars is service still?  When they go into emergency it is amazing how fast the train stops.

There is a set being used on 76Z and 77Z Powder River - Scherer, GA trains operated with BNSF using NS power and NS hoppers equipped with ECP brakes.

The trains you were seeing through Abingdon would have been the 76A/77A and 720/721 Clover trains that used to load out of Norton. The Clover trains are loading out of Elmore now for the most part but they aren't using the ECP trains as much as they used to either. The ECP is still very buggy and caused a lot of problems when they were running it down here.
