Well train 140 ran a red board last night at Davis of all places.  They almost had a head-on with 223.  For those who do not know, Davis is where we did have a head-on back in 1990.  Not a good day for GA Div.

:o Oh, man! How errie that is seventeen years to the month of that horrible tragedy. Thank God that no one was hurt!

Any details on how or why this happened? How far did the trains stop-short of each other?

TB4JY

Well rumor has it...  They went two car lengths in the foul.  Speed in the siding is 25mph, I hear that he got down to 19mph then accelerated to 29mph.  Then he shot the brakes about 1000 feet from the signal.  All this is hearsay though.

The VA div is also having troubles with signals being run. There has been atleast 6 incidents up there in about a month, the last being in Roanoke last week.

About what time was it when this happened? The speeds look similar to those of 188 back in '90.

Looked like about 5:42 a.m.

Are there any updates regarding the incident or the investigation?

TB4JY

No, not really.  Our Division Superintendent automatically dismisses anyone who gets by a signal or a banner.  So the crew will be going before the labour board if they want their jobs back.  They won't be back for at least one year if their lucky.

Wow, it's a hearing and usually thirty days for a veteran crewman with his first offense on the Central- at least on the Knoxville District.
