It was very busy today(06/22/06)on the NS Illinois Division through Southern Illinois.  One train I was unfamiliar with was NS train 52R, with lead engine NS 2658(nice)and a NS 9385.  It came through Centralia, IL heading East about 3 in the afternoon with covered hoppers. Is this a detour train? Where does it originate and where is it heading?

Thanks

52R is a grain train, which is technically unscheduled. It's highly unlikely that this would be a detour.  Maybe one of our experts can provide more insight on this train (origin/destination/etc...).

Yea, it was a grain train.  It had about 36 cars on it.

It's definitely not a detour train, I've caught it through Princeton a few times.

It either came out of Kansas City or to St. Louis via Bnsf from the NS Yard in Des Moines Iowa. We are getting about 6 or 7 of these trains a week and sometimes they are throwing them on the head end of 111 to split at Princeton, Indiana. There are various destions with most going thru Chattanooga and the rest going thru Knoxville.
