Any idea why Southern would paint a 40 foot gondola in Pullman Green with gold lettering?
Had this photo kicking around for a long time, decided to finally scan it in.

Southern had a couple of gons and a conveyor car that used to travel around with the 4501, 722 ect for coal support at outlying terminals. I wonder if that is one of them??  I seem to recall that they where painted a bit differently than the rest of the fleet...

Ill take a stab on the location of you photo to...RIP tracks behind the Danville (KY) shop??

Bingo on the location. Good eye, Emmett.

Fellows, they also used to have some gondolas equipped for hauling people.  If it's Pullman Green, with Railroad Roman lettering, I'd bet it was one of those.  Some of the "old farts" around here tell stories of when they were cut up down at Harriman.

My recollection of the coal transfer cars were that they were made from 70 ton, 50 footers, many of which are now in MOW service.  I'm not sure about the coal hauling cars, but the transfer/conveyor cars were black IIRC.
