Title: Old Derailment
Post by: CAGY 2777 on September 24, 2009, 10:57:16 AM
While going thru youtube looking for things on the Southern Railway I found this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa7HtLadO9Y

Doesn' t show action but still pictures with music. From about :36 - 3:29 there are a series of pics of a derailment somewhere on the NS, I'm assuming on the old SOU somewhere in Georgia during the 80's or early 90's given that none have ditch lights and the 3961 was retired in October 96.  You'll see the NS 2789 laid on its side along with SOU 2717, SOU 5023 and SOU 3961. Wasn't sure where to put this and hope it hasn't been posted elsewhere already but thought some of you may find in interesting.

The video was made before the summer of 1988.The GP38-2 5023 was destroyed in Greensboro NC in 1988 after hitting a loaded gas tanker.

Not only that but I heard in that same wreck NS 5022 and NS 5021 were taken out to. All consecutive units.

 8) There are two links to the Graniteville Incident on that page...the noise you here is the cameraman breathing through a self-contained breathing apparatus...

I've seen those before to. In fact I live 6 miles from Graniteville and I have railfan outings there to.
