I am just wondering... it has been over 100 years that trains and cars have shared this earth. When will drivers of cars realize that the little amount of time lost at a grade crossing is nothing compared to their lives?

One way new drivers could improve is to be aware of trains. Ever notice everytime you talk to some people about trains you'll here "choo-choo?" And if you have a model layout "how fast does it go?" If people were more aware and respected trains, the fatalities would decrease considerably.

Remember all those cool operation lifesaver videos they made with ns in the 80s like "David's Run" and "Off Limits, Don't Get Caught Dead In Your Tracks?" Those illustrated what will happen if you play around with trains. Unfortunately, to get the interest of kids they now use sly fox and birdie, which are just cartoons and really do not stress the need for rail safety. One time, out on the old Nickel Plate line where I live, a guy was driving right next to an ns train, and he decided beat in on a crossing. He slammed into the lead engine's pilot and went hurdling.
