Folks:

Late last year, I started talking to a friend of mine at the
Knoxville & Holston River RR in Knoxville about a photo charter using
the former Southern RR 1002 (CTC #4) and the
SR 1007. After working with them trying to put this together,
it was decided it would be cheaper on everyone involved to make this a
"public" event, in the form of a railfan day sponsored by the KXHR.  Due
to the fact we will need Two train crews, it was looking to be cost
prohibitive for a private charter (at least with the diesels
anyway..folks will always pay more to shoot the steam)

MANY people here on Jreb seem to have an personal attachment to the
Southern 1002 and 1007, and this will be the first photo trip to use
them both, as the main attraction!

After several months of planning, the KXHR have gotten
everything finalized, and the trips will be running on
Sunday, November  20th!

Attached is a flyer about the event. This
will be a unique opportunity to see two 1940s vintage Southern Railway
SW1's operating, both wearing their historically accurate paint schemes.
Please feel free to share this with anyone that you feel may be interested.
The KXHR has not done much (if any) public promotion of this even yet,
and have given me the green light to let our Jreb members know about it
before most other folks do.

For those here on the board who are interested in purchasing tickets,
please call The Three Rivers Rambler ticket office at 865.524.9411
( Jreb can NOT take ticket orders ) The ticket office is staffed on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Alternatively, if you are interested
in purchasing tickets you can drop me an email with your contact info
and I'll have someone contact you.

We will be covering the most scenic areas of the line AND some of the
industrial areas where the regular passenger trains do not operate,
including the trackage at the Industrial park at the end of the RFE
line.  Chris is also working on a plan for a unique angle to shoot on
the Holston River Bridge as well.  We expect this to sell out quick, and
its limited to the first  50 folks who sign up.  Trains will run rain or
shine (lets hope for more shine).. The KXHR crews are good folks, who will
do their best to provided some quality entertainment for us.

If you have any questions about the event please let me know
Also,  let me know if you do purchase tickets, for I can keep track
of our group and who will be there. This should be a great day, and
I hope to see a lot of our members there!

(Note...the PDF flyer is attached at the bottom of this post, and I have also copied it as text. Please see the post below this one)

Emmett, hats off to you for your part in making such a thing happen and to Mr. Starnes for his part as well.

You deserve a big atta-boy!

Perhaps you can arrange for this to be an annual event.

Looking forward to your pics--I know you and the many other serious enthusiasts will have it well-covered!

Thanks for the "atta-boy" , but I must give credit where it is due, which would be Chris Starnes, Scott Ogle, and the other fine folks at the KXHR for making this happen. They have had a full plate the past month preparing for, and pulling off, the joint steam trip with NS Two weeks ago, plus moving freight with what is a limited number of folks. Our photo train was small in comparison, but they did a great job.

The weather was not kind to us at all, but we did catch a few sucker holes in the morning, and that allowed what I hope to be some great shots. I have yet to download my memory cards, and must admit I dont have a clear memory of the day at all.

We all ate supper at the outback Saturday night, and in about 4 hours time I was sick as a dog, and didn't sleep at all. By the time Sunday morning rolled around, I was feeling pretty bad, and when when took a lunch break that afternoon, They had to load me up in the explorer, and Carmon drove us home.  I had a temp of 104 by the time we made it back to KY, and have been sick ever since..seems I got a nice little case of Salmonella from the chicken I ate Saturday night, and this is the first time I have been able to stay out of bed more than 15 mins since then. I hope Carmon and the rest of the gang got some good shots, because I dont know if I did or not...I hope I TOOK a few to tell the truth. I am almost afraid to look !

Wow Emmett, I had no idea you were that ill.  I knew something was wrong when you went home early, but I never heard why.  Sorry to hear about your situation; Outback is usually a good bet for a great meal!  I hope you get to feeling better soon.

If it helps any, I recall you saying that you could go home happy with what you got in just the morning session!  I'm sure you got some great stuff, as always.

I myself got some pretty good footage and plan to release it by Friday.
