Sunday morning I headed to Austell Junction for the day in hopes of capturing a couple of Goodies including the NS8100 NKP heritage unit leading NS 251 and the UP 1996 Southern Pacific unit second out on NS 22N. As the morning unfolded it became real obvious the rail road was all knotted up. A few trains tied down, three that shot their air during the course of the morning and one with an expired "Blue Card" on a unit belonging to a foreign railroad. Later in the day even more trains being tied down and I couldn't help being reminded of the days following of the Conrail merger. Real close, but not that bad. As it turned out I would have been wise to head north toward Rome Georgia early on and I would have captured the NKP unit. Not to be this time. Oh, and then there is the Wabash heritage unit leading yet another coal drag from Galatia Mine, east of Galatia, Illinois to plant Wansley somewhere south out of Chattanooga.

Here are just a few photos of the days catch. Most taken just north of Austell Junction at the Austell Box Board Plant.
NS 215 (CHICAGO, IL (LANDERS) - ATLANTA, GA) NS 7636 BNSF 7347 & NS 9207 After they completed their set out at Whitaker yard this train headed south to Inman yard with just 3 cars.

NS 22Z (LONG BEACH, CA (UP IHJNS) - ATL.GA) UP 7413 4799 & 5115 lite engines now as G9A leave the entire train in the siding between Cobb and Mableton and will head back north on the #2 main and will cross over to the #1 main at Lowe. Work their way north around the tied down grain train at Lowe on track #2 to the north Austell signals From there they head back south on the runaround track and go into the north end of the siding at Cobb off the #2 main. Couple up and drag the entire train north into Whitaker Yard.

Three UP's now running long hood forward as G9A UP 5115 4799 & 7413 heading north into Whitaker Yard

NS 24E (ATLANTA, GA - DALLAS, TX (KCS IATDA2) NS 8134 1077 & 8814 off the Alabama East End at Austell North Atlanta track #1

NS 22N (MEMPHIS, TN - ATLANTA, GA) BNSF 9026 & UP 1996 Heritage Southern Pacific unit head south at the Austell Box Board plant toward Austell Junction.

NS 264 (EAST POINT, GA - DETROIT, MI) Road Railer NS 9121 & UP 9736 at 5,300ft high balling it north bound at the Box Board plant road crossing.

With several trains tied down by the end of the day, traffic all knotted up and two yards overflowing one crew's radio transmission was somewhat comical... "Blame it all on SEC football"
