Title: If a metal sculptor in Western NC wants a short length of rail...
Post by: MotoLinz on December 05, 2013, 08:10:57 PM
...how/where should he go about obtaining that? He asked me because he knows my kids love trains. My response was, "How the hell should I know?" :)

So, I figured someone here might know. He's looking for only 1-2 ft. of a single rail. He apparently spoke with someone at Norfolk Southern about some old rail that is rusting in the grass on their property somewhere over there, and the person he spoke with said NS is "bitchy" about their rail.

Any ideas?

Yes, do not have him remove any rail w/o permission! I would suggest either a shortline RR or some kind of small independant railcar repair shop/engine shop... like Rescar or Dana... prob be able to find someone there. Hope this helps. DE Dan

I am sure most rail museums would have a piece laying around that they would let go of. They are generally more giving then a railroad that regularly scraps old rail for profit.
