The NS dispatcher was giving a slow order today at Moon, IL over the West switch, MP 110.0(Illinois Division).  I don't know all the NS lingo but he used the term "battered frog",  what does that mean?

Mike:

This means that the frog has some sort of defect.  Usually, but not always, it is cracked in some way and needs to be welded.  Based on the current weather in the area I'd say that this is the case.  The slower the slow order (usually either 10 mph or 25 mph) the bigger the defect.
