Title: Easter treats from NS and the B&H
Post by: Matt L on April 01, 2016, 11:04:01 PM
Easter came early this year, but the weather was nice. In addition to visiting family, I also spent time trackside in NY's Southern Tier region.

Day #1 was spent at or near CP Cass. NS 23K heading west around mid-day:

Note the standard cab SD70 trailing on 23K:

NS 36T eastbound nearly an hour later:

NS 37T had stacks mixed in the with mainfest freight:

Day #2 was even warmer than the previous day. Due to family time, I only spent a couple of hours with NS... but they were productive.

NS 37T heading westbound:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06556.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06556.jpg.html)

The end of 37T had CWR flats, because NS is working on the Sputhern TIer Mainline:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06572.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06572.jpg.html)

NS 205 heading west:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06575.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06575.jpg.html)

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06588.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06588.jpg.html)

Westbound NS light engine move, symbol unknown:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06593.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06593.jpg.html)

The engines were running log hood forwad, so this was the "going away' shot:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06595.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0327%20Horseheads%20NY/DSC06595.jpg.html)

Day #3 was rainy at times, but that created some interesting lighting.

NS H85 working the yard in Gang Mills, as seen from State Route 417:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20AM1%20Gang%20Mills%20NY/DSCN0880.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20AM1%20Gang%20Mills%20NY/DSCN0880.jpg.html)

Slide show from the Gang Mills Yard:

The Bath & Hammondsport RR was also running. C424M was leading the local at Eagle Valley ROad in blessing:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06626.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06626.jpg.html)

The B&H conductor inspected the train in Painted Post:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06657.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06657.jpg.html)

Ther traffic signals over Hamilton Street in Painted Post are broken , so the B&H conductor flagged the crossing:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06682.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06682.jpg.html)

NS also had to flag the same crossing when H85 picked up the consist left by the B&H:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06720.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06720.jpg.html)

RS18u #416 led the outbound B&H local next to West Chemung Street in Painted Post:

(http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/Erielackawanna/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06770.jpg) (http://s857.photobucket.com/user/Erielackawanna/media/2016/Mar%202016/0328%20BHRR/DSC06770.jpg.html)

Complete slide show of the B&H, including interchange with NS:

All photos in this post and the links ere take by me Monday 3/28 in Steuben County, NY. A big thanks goes out to the crew of the B&H for their professionalism and friendliness.
