Ladderpipe,

On September 1st, I caught 5801 on the Pittsburgh Line headed east out of Pittsburgh. I've spotted it about a half dozen times in the past couple of years. Thought you might be interested in the photo. Tom

Nice. I take it that the plow cut-outs are for 3rd rail clearance? I know CSX does it for NYC area. DE Dan

Thank you Tom. After viewing many pictures of 5801, it doesn't seem to stray from PA often. This was a fun project since it is slightly different from the other GP38-3s. The main reason for me building the 38-3 was because it was the last rebuild type that received the standard EMD cab.

Nice job! Did you start with a GP50 and modify the fans and DB housing? DE Dan

Yes sir, thats a good ol' trusty blue box 50. I cut all three rad fans off and replaced them with a Plano rad fan hatch and Details Assoc. fans (and styrene patched the center fan). The DB filter box was also rebuilt. The 5801 appears to have to the only squared off box. All of the others are angled sides.
