Title: Look what I found!
Post by: Michael Knight on December 27, 2006, 07:55:30 PM
I found this hanging over a Knoxville street. This was a former warehouse district and the rails that served the industries are still in place, albeit paved over by alsphalt. The NS Knoxville to Chattanooga mainline is roughly 300 feet south of this location.

Great find, Paul.  It's really amazing to see what artifacts are still in place from days gone by.  That telltale is in a spot where one would least expect it.  There must have been some tight overhead clearances in that area.

It was used to protect the old Western Avenue viaduct. The current viaduct, built around 1988, is higher than the one it replaced.

I'll have to dig it up and move it! ;)

Here is another view; the viaduct can be seen in the background.
