Post by: Joe Vittitoe on November 27, 2006, 10:58:56 PM
Anyone know what Southern Cabs were numbered from? Back in the 80's
when I knew their days were numbered I photographed many of them. The
lowest being 153 a yellow bay to the highest being the 790.Thanks for any
info.

Make that X71 that lowest one that I got.Forgot about that one.Actually that
was a cool catch since it was coupled to SR SW1500 71.

I'm no expert on Cabs but their is a Southern Caboose (might be a bay window) restored and on display along with the Southern Passenger Car "Bristol". I'm pretty sure that the caboose number begins with X then 3 numbers. I believe the number (on the caboose) is a 100 series. They are  located next to Volunteer Parkway (on the TN side of town) on a former SOU line that has been turned into a short paved trail. I believe it is called the Wes Davis Greenway. The next time I'm down that way I will see if I can get some shots of the two. Sorry this doesn't have much to do with SOU cab numbers but just thought I would throw it out there.
