Turned on the scanner this morning and around 9:00am learned that 48D east bound grain trains second unit, NS1087 ran out of fuel and were in the siding at temple Georgia. Not good! The lead motor was KCS 4050. DPU was NS 8099 Southern. Nose forward. Plan was to get one of 23E's three units (KCS 4814) at Taylor. Leaving 23E with just its lead motor NS 7639 an ES44DC for power as its second unit NS 8451 was a bad ordered unit? Not sure of 23E's tonnage load but better than half of his train was bare tables. By now it was 11:15 am eastern as 23E headed west. His biggest problem was he had about 3 and half hour left before they went on the law. Not sure they made to Irondale before the clock ran out.

Back to 48D. As of 5pm this afternoon, some 6 hours after getting the additional power to continue east to Inman, they were still north of the yard and arrangements were being made to fuel the second unit NS 1087. And now the trains ID is 46D. At least this crew had the where with all to ask that a passing train stop and advise as to the amount of fuel the 8099 had before they have another problem with a trailing DP unit running out of fuel. Last I heard it was going down to Jones Ave, in Atlanta and headed south bound toward Macon Georgia at 8:30pm. What's with the change in train ID? Is that a common occurrence with say, grain trains between terminals?
