A man was hit by a train in Nicholasville Saturday and lived to call police himself.  It happened near Highway 29 in Jessamine County.

The victim was airlifted from the scene.  A spokesperson for Norfolk Southern says a man called Jessamine County 911 dispatchers around 9am Saturday telling them he'd been hit by a train about an hour earlier and needed help.

Norfolk Southern confirms that a train did pass through that area around 8:00 headed northbound.  That train was stopped in Cincinnati, where the crew was questioned and the train was checked for damage, but nothing unusual was found.

Police have not released the man's name or condition.
