I just entered the process of getting a job with NS as a conductor. I went to my physical and , of course I had a couple medical things in my past that want to haunt me. I fell at a former job and messed my back up but it was a temporary thing. It was 14 years ago and no problems since. I also had a problem as a child,  that caused me to have a few seizures( not epilepsy ). I had surgery to take care of the problem. This was also 20 yrs ago, with no problems in over 12 yrs. Im not on any meds or anything.  I had to go to my family doctor to get released and he didnt see any problems with anything. Im just waiting on the paperwork to get done. I am very anxious to get my new career with the railroad started. I found this site and thought maybe could give me some insight ito this and let me know what to expect whe I do hear something from NS

Did the NS physician send you to your own doctor? What did the NS physician find? If you passed your drug screening, color blindness test, and hernia check you have done well. Assuming you have no problems that limit your mobility, you should have a good shot. Good luck to you! Let us know how it turns out.

Yes the doctor that did my physical said I had no problems, I recieved a letter in the mail from the NS dostor that said I had to get a release from my family doctor , the letter also described my potential job duties. My family doctor did release me with no question that I am perfectly capable of performing all of them. There is nothing that limits my mobility, Actualy I am perfectly normal, with no problems at all , I am just worried that the fact that I did have a few seizures in my past will haunt me forever. Thanks so much for your reply.

It sounds to me that you should be hearing from NS soon. You can always call your local terminal office to find out as well.

This may be a stupid question but would they say anything if you had 2 metal plates put in your hand?
EMD all the way.

 8)  The Health Information Portability & Privacy Act(HIPPA), protects your entire medical record, forever.

Unless you grant permission to an entity(why the hell anyone would do that is not for me to judge), no one will ever know anything on your medical record.

All medications must be recorded at the time of the toxicology testing(drug screen).

The event eight years after your first seizure, is something for you to think about, however if your not on any meds, it wouldn't seem to be a problem.

You should have not said anything about your back.  Don't do that again.

In your case, I hope you attain the position you apply for, however if the conditions you have to work in cause you any problem, check with your personal physician, and take his advice to heart.

If the railroad finds any complications which affect you after hire, they will let you know.

But do go into this with a clear mind and heart, or don't go into it...it's not for everyone(including me, by chicken-hearted choice).
