Norfolk Southern runs their local H06 from the yard in Gang Mills (NY) to Geneva from Sunday to Thursday to interchange with the Finger Lakes Railway. In recent years, the crew reports at 5 PM. Add in a few afternoon arrivals at Gang Mills (e.g. NS 36T, 37T and/or 309) ...and the train won't leave right away. Thus H06 runs in darkness for most of the year. However, the long days alte spring and early summer can alow at least some of the northbound run to occur in day light.

Such was the case last week. H06 entered the Corning Secondary (as seen from the High Street Bridge in Corning) around sunset:

There was no point in taking photos any further, because there was no background to give any context.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

Thanks for sharing those photos.  The dusk and dark shots were unusual.  I haven't tried that; don't get to the tracks that late, especially at night.

Thanx, Bill. Night shots are tricky. I do not attempt them often, but H06 is worth the effort.

I appreciate this time of year for catching certain trains in daylight that can't be seen the rest of the year. Nice catches!

Thanx! I am going to try to photograph H06 again later this month. Hopefully, the train will depart Corning well before sunset!
