I'd been invited to a friend's 50th birthday party last weekend (man,. we are getting old!) so I decided to incorporate a couple of days trackside into the mix. One thing I didn't anticipate was rain. It fell in buckets from Thursday of last week to mid-day Saturday, except for a couple of brief breaks. Where some photographers might treat like the black plague itself, I accepted the challenge.

Now it didn't hurt that I caught one of those breaks when I started at Tifft Street in Buffalo.

NS 310 parked on the former NKP mainline:

the B&P local was also working in the Buffalo Creek Yard at Tifft Street, powered by a pair of forrner N&W Geeps:

NS has trackage rights on the Buffalo Southern, which it uses when the former NKP main is in use. On this occasion, NS 145 headed west on BSOR to bypass NS C88 and 310:

I also chased NS local C88 down to Hamburg and then back to Blasdell.

In the rain and fog on the approach to CP Blasdell:

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

i spent much of the afternoon in Dunkirk.

NS intermodal 26R heading east at AK Diamond:

I spent the night in Mayville, and visited a rail park in nearby Westfield. Although NS does pass by the park, all of the action I saw there was CSX. Indeed, CSX would dominate the action that day.

Heading eastward, I did catch NS manifest freight 316 at Alleghany Road in Sunset Bay:

A look at the 5 trains I saw in Sunset Bay, including going away of shots of NS 316:

Returning to Hamburg, I shot 15 trains. Most of them again were CSX, but I did catch a couple of NS intermodals heading east.

I was on the other side of a CSX intermodal when I caught NS 206 at Bayview Road:

NS 22K with a single widecab for power approaching Bayview Road:

No trip to greater Buffalo is complete without a sunset at Lake Erie, which I enjoyed on the town beach in Hamburg:

Thanx, gents! I agree about the rain- it was a nuisance but created an effective misty backdrop.
