As most (or maybe even all) of the jreb faithful have seen, I had a fun chase with NS H06 a month ago. This local runs from gang Mills to Geneva, NY on Sun-Thu schedule. While the previous chase was quite nice, my second swing at H06 was even better why?

A. Better weather when the train entered the Corning Secondary in Corning:

B. This run was right before a holiday break, so H06 had just 11 cars. The consist usually has at least 40 cars these days, and sometimes (including the June 5th chase) over 50 cars. The shorter train got up the 1% grade with ease, allowing for a daylight shot at County Route 16 in Dix:

C. For the first time since 2012, I actually caught H06 at the State Route 14 crossing in Himrod just after sunset. This shot was taken a full 40 minutes earlier than the hcase on June 5th:

D. There was even enough light (with a little help from a friendly motorist) to snag a few shots near Lake Street in the City of Geneva:

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

just as i did on June 5th, I stayed overnight  in geneva and chased the Finger Lakes Railway.

This time I chased road freight GS2 deep into the countryside, including a alkeside shot in Cayuga:

My chase of FGLk GS2 ended at Solvay. Before that train arrived, I caught local SY1 running next to State Route State Route 297:

Heading west, I also snagged FGLK local AY1 switching in Auburn:

The day ended a rather stormy note. I had headed back to Geneva to catch  the return of GS2 (which didn't return to the yard until we ll after dark). In the meantime, I saw nasty thunderstorms to the north, east and south. Thankfully my location on the west side of Seneca Lake in Geneva was safe!
