NS Alabama / Georgia District Train Activity June 2016

With longer day light hours into the middle of June comes warmer days only to be even hotter in the months of July and August. So for this old guy it's best to be track side in the early morning hours. Below is a series of photos taken during the month of June at various locations on the NS system here in northwest Georgia.   

With a pair of ES44C4-T4CUs units led by #7947, BNSF Memphis interchanged military train operating as NS train O56, heads east on the  Alabama Division East End District main line at Temple Georgia. This was the third such train, with two other UP & BNSF Memphis interchanged military trains having previously taken the same routing just days earlier.


Norfolk Southern's Heritage unit #8100 Nickle Plate Road ES 44AC and two UP units leads NS train 173 (LINWOOD, NC – SHEFFIELD, ALA) west bound on the siding to hold for manifest train 154 at Temple Georgia MP 676.2


Norfolk Southern's Heritage unit #1065 Savanna & Atlanta SD70ACe leads NS train 220 (DALLAS, TX (KCS IDAAT)- ATLANTA, GA) east bound on the Alabama Division East End District main line at Tallapoosa Georgia.


The #1065 Savanna & Atlanta SD70ACe east bound at the Waco Curve MP687.9


Ethanol train NS 65Q with the #9351 Dash 9-44CW leading, heads south bound at CP England on the main line by the Austell Box Board facility.


With a pair of  Dash 9-44CW "War Bonnets" #'s 688 & 642, NS train 285 (KANSAS CITY MO / ATLANTA, GA - JAX, FL (FEC) rolls south past the north Austell signal bridge after having left off a cut of cars at Whitaker Yard. Capturing two Santa Fe units leading any train here in the southeast is a rare  find for sure.


Still painted in the standard "Gray" scheme, KCS  #4592 an AC4400CW leads NS train 24E (DALLAS, TX (KCS IDAAT2) - ATLANTA, GA) east bound out of CP Taylor at MP675.3


Empty unit grain train NS 52R works its way northbound on the Georgia Division North Atlanta District main line out of Austell JCT with the #9819 Dash 9-44CW in the lead.


Sporting two different style number boards the #6965, EMD SD60 leads NS train 22N (AKA"22 Naocho") (MEMPHIS, TN - ATLANTA, GA) southbound on the #1 main line at Mabelton Georgia.


A new GE Tier 4 ET44AC #3608 leads south bound manifest NS train 175 (ELKHART IN – MACON GA.) seen here diverting off the North Atlanta District #1 main line to the "run around" track at Austell Georgia.


Georgia Power Plant Wansley empty coal drag NS train 708 led by #7650 ES44DC heads northbound on thr "C-Line" just past CP South Bremen at the connection track to the Alabama East End District main line.
