GA. SR92 Relocation / New Underpass of NS East End Main Line
« on: February 09, 2015, 09:25:23 AM »
Over the past 16-18 years there have been no less then eight new over / under passes built involving the mainlines of the Norfolk Southern Railroad west and northwest of Atlanta Georgia. Both the Alabama and Georgia Divisions have benefited from these eight projects by reducing the number of at grade road crossings on just about all of them. At long last after several years of talking and planning, work started back in late 2014 on the relocation of Ga.SR92 to the east of downtown Douglasville Georgia. Currently grading and utility relocation work is underway to the north and south of Bankhead hi-way, US 78 just east of the current SR92 route. The project will include the removal of three existing at grade RR crossing and the relocation of another. The Brown Street crossing has already been removed. Three under passes of SR 92 are included in this project, East Strickland Street, Norfolk Southern RR (2 tracks) and US 78. According to the information listed on the Georgia DOT web site the current cost of the project is listed as $60 million. Below is the engineering firms rendering of the project looking north with downtown Douglasville to the west of this location. The project currently lists a 2020 completion.
