Speed limit increase on the Reading Line???
« on: August 11, 2014, 01:32:46 PM »
My dad told me that he was told from a reliable source that the max speed on the Reading Line was raised to 60 from 50. Can anyone confirm or deny this statement? I can't say that I've noticed a difference but I haven't been trackside much here of late.
Thanks!
PA Dan

Speeds have not changed on the Reading Line or any other lines from Jersey to Hbg.

NS did raise speeds on the lower Lurgan south of Harrisburg to 60. Sections of the NW south of Hagerstown are 60 too. 60 is also in use west of Harrisburg to Altoona. I don't know how recent west of HBG went into effect but the Lurgan is a recent change, within a year or two.

Thanks guys for the information. Perhaps my old man's source was referring to the Lurgan when relating the speed limit change and my pop assumed it applied here on the Reading Line too. Hopefully speeds will be raised soon though, I like me some fast freight!
