"The engineer in the old high cab his gold watch in his hand, looking at the waterglass and letting down the sand, rolling out on the old main line taking up the slack, gone today so they say but tomorrow he'll be back...."

Entry #1 is from the last day I saw a former Conrail SD40-2 in dress blue. As I recall, #3360 was repainted the following spring.

Photo taken by me Friday 9/20/2011 in Buffalo, NY.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

I'm going to add one more photo.  I'm not sure if this will qualify, since the SD40-2 isn't leading a train, but it is in front of another locomotive.  I like the picture.  Photo made at the Danville, KY yard January 2014.

These might not win - but I have to honor my late friend John Farris by submitting two of his images.  I have been in the process over the last year "digitizing" his collection and he has two really nice images from the late 1980's.

The first is SD40-2 6125 leading a hot pig train in the snow at Rogers Gap, KY.  Little has changed with this scene since John took it around 1989.

Second, is SD40-2 3273 doing what it did best - running "Southern Style" around the curve at Georgetown, KY.  This shot is impossible now with the growth of trees and of course, the Southern GRS signals being removed.

Here are my entries for the month.

The new NS 3554 leads NS G88 intermodal transfer to Whitaker Intermodal yard in Austell, GA. Taken with my Fujifilm S4250 zoomed all the way in to 576 mm. It had a really nice Helm leasing 'Redbird" paint job, but sadly the NS patches were spray painted on and looked awful. January 18, 2014

NS 3464 leads NS G39 through Rome, GA. April 1, 2013. (Sorry for using a RP.net embed, but I couldnt find this one in my Flickr stream, and scroll over or look at the attachment to see the full thing)
