June 1st, 1982 was the date the long anticipated merger between the Norfolk & Western and Southern Railway was finalized, creating  Norfolk Southern. The merger created what has come to be one of the consistently strongest and most profitable Transportation companies in the United states.

While the celebrations will continue all year with Steam trips, Heritage units and lots of other awesome things that most of us thought we would NEVER see again, please join us in wishing the Thoroughbred of Transportation a happy 30th on this, the Official date!
