Awright!!! Great shot, and great memories of the way things used to be. As odd as this might look to many people, the lead unit is running front-end forward.

any ideas what that second unit is and why it has white numberboards?

The white numberboards indicated that the unit was equipped as a Locotrol radio control master unit for leading radio control trains.
